Mamelodi Sundowns flop Erwin Saavedra is weighing up his options following his departure from the club in January.
The Brazilians had faced a foreign quota conundrum following the acquisition of defender Lucas Suarez.
And they had to make a decision on the future of Saavedra given the little impact he had had since joining them.
Saavedra was with Sundowns for three years but long-term injuries played a huge role in hampering his progress.
Now, when Sundowns acquired the signature of Suarez, they had to decide between Brazilian attacker Arthur Sales and Saavedra.
However, given that Sales has just been signed at the start of the season, and was still settling in, Saavedra had to be released.
According to reports, Saavedra was not sacked but the two parties rather parted ways amicably.
Now, latest reports from Mexico suggest that the 28-year-old free agent is in La Paz, Mexico, where he is thinking about his next step.
The reports claim that Saavedra has attracted interest from Bolivian clubs and other teams from abroad.
He has played for only three teams in his career – Goias of Brazil, Bolivar from Bolivia and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Bolivia international was signed by Sundowns for a reported R14.8 million but he turned out to be nothing but a flop.
Why?
That is because he only managed 13 appearances across all competitions during his three years with Sundowns.
And during that period, Saavedra never found the back and never registered even a single assist to his name.
