According to an inside source, Amakhosi remain keen on Mashego and could benefit from a potential free transfer at the end of the season.
Why Chiefs failed to sign Mashego in January
The club initially pursued Mashego in January but financial constraints forced them to shift priorities.
“They haven’t given up on him. Apparently, they had to prioritize other signings which they felt were more important in the January transfer window. But they still want to pursue the move again at the end of the season,” the source revealed.
Chiefs recognize the need for a strong left-back, and Mashego remains high on their radar.

Mashego’s contract with Sundowns expires on June 30. While Sundowns hold a one-year extension option, negotiations between the club and the player appear to have stalled.
“There is nothing happening between the player and the club, which could mean he becomes a free agent at the end of the season. That would allow Chiefs to sign him without paying a transfer fee,” the source explained.

Sundowns reportedly demanded a transfer fee of less than R10 million in January, which became a major stumbling block. If Mashego leaves as a free agent, Chiefs could sign him without financial hurdles.
“If he is a free agent at the end of the season, then it will be easy for Chiefs to sign him,” the source added.
