Civil rights organisation AfriForumis penning an official letter to the United States government and request that the punitive measures that President Donald Trump in planning on introducing against South Africa should rather target senior ANC leaders directly and not South Africa’s residents.

AfriForum’s request follows in response to an entry that Trump made on his Truth social media platform on Sunday.
AfriForum is also going to make an urgent request to the South African government to, in an attempt to avert this crisis, table an amendment to the Expropriation Act that will ensure the protection of property rights in South Africa.
According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, his organisation has already warned President Cyril Ramaphosaand the ANC that the signing of the Expropriation Act, as well as the enforcement of the country’s existing racial laws, will have serious negative implications for investor confidence in South Africa.
Trump made the following post: “South Africa is confiscating land, and treating certain classes of people VERY BADLY. It is a bad situation that the Radical Left Media doesn’t want to so much as mention. A massive Human Rights VIOLATION, at a minimum, is happening for all to see. The United States won’t stand for it, we will act. Also, I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed!”
Kriel further emphasised that there are serious concerns about the impact that Trump’s punitive measures will have on ordinary citizens who are already buckling under economic pressure.
“AfriForum’s position is and has always been that the foolish government and president should be punished for their destructive policies rather than the country’s citizens,” Kriel added.
