We are hours away from the biggest of them all: the Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium. Here are your television details.
SABC TO BROADCAST THE SOWETO DERBY
According to the TV Guide, the match will be live on SABC 1 at 15:30 and on the online channel SABC+. For those with DStv, the game will be on channel 202.
BONGANI SAM WAS SET TO LEAVE KAIZER CHIEFS
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has to keep on working with Bongani Sam. The 27-year-old former Orlando Pirates left-back suffered a horrific ankle injury during pre-season in Turkey. After just one appearance against Marumo Gallants in the friendly CUFA Cup last October, the Gqeberha-born defender was set to join Magesi FC on loan until the end of the season. Yesterday’s report said: “With Sam clearly out of favour under Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi, the club has decided to loan him out,” FARPost reported. “Da Gama, currently seeking a left-back for his struggling Magesi side, has identified Sam as a potential solution.”
DEAL CALLED OFF
According to SABC Sport, the deal between Kaizer Chiefs and Magesi failed to materialise at the last hour before deadline on Wednesday. “Word reaching the public broadcaster’s desk is that Dikwena Tsa Meetse pulled the plug on the move at the last minute on Tuesday evening,” reported Mazola Molefe. “It is understood that Magesi were keen on landing the former Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows full-back for the next few months, with the player even having completed a medical in Johannesburg prior to his trip to Limpopo.”
“The reigning Carling Knockout champions instead notified Amakhosi that they no longer have room for Sam, after they were unable to offload a few players of their own before the transfer deadline, while having to also pay a portion of his salary,” concluded Molefe.
In the meantime, coach Nabi will remain with four left-back options: Bradley Cross, Thatayaone Dithlokwe, Happy Mashiane, and, of course, Sam.
