SASSA beneficiaries with frozen accounts urged to collect new cards

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) revealed in a statement that it has partnered with FNB to assist SASSA beneficiaries with frozen Ithala bank accounts.

They have since provided dates that beneficiaries need to visit their nearest FNB branch. This is to activate their new accounts and collect their cards. Here are the dates for all those that are affected.

SASSA GRANT BENEFICIARIES WITH FROZEN ACCOUNTS TO USE FNB FOR NOW

According to the statement, FNB has offered assistance to those beneficiaries whose Ithala accounts have been frozen. FNB has opened accounts for Ithala clients affected to be able to receive their grants.

The agency explained:“The National Treasury informed SASSA that in the interim, out of all the banks that were approached by BASA, First National Bank (FNB) offered emergency assistance to open accounts to facilitate payment for SASSA clients, who are currently banking at Ithala.

DATES SASSA BENEFICIARIES NEED TO COLLECT NEW CARDS

SASSA grant beneficiaries have been urged to activate their new FNB accounts and collect their cards. The dates affected beneficiaries need to get their new cards is from 28 January – 4 February 2025. Recipients will need to have their ID with them for collection.

“In addition, joint outreaches will be held by SASSA and FNB in more rural areas to limit the travelling inconvenience for clients in these areas,” SASSA added.

“Over the course of the next 3 months all clients will have the choice to change to their preferred bank. SASSA will ensure that sufficient resources are available to support clients with this,” the agency further explained.
