Former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter and MK Party MP, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, is set to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Thursday over charges linked to the July 2021 unrest.

The unrest, sparked after Jacob’s imprisonment, resulted in over 350 deaths and R50 billion in damages across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

The MK Party took to X on Tuesday to announce Duduzile’s upcoming court appearance and called on party members to show their support by attending.

According to News24, spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela confirmed that Duduzile’s attorney was served with charges last week.

Duduzile, known for her controversial social media posts during the unrest, had previously predicted her arrest in 2022, claiming it would happen “Hollywood style”.

“I’m told this is how my arrest will probably play out: arrest me Hollywood style on a Friday. Consider denying bail, but there might be some pressure to grant the bail. Then give me bail conditions which will include that I stay off social media, especially Twitter,” she posted on X on 14 August 2022.

In January 2022, the SAHRC found no direct link between Jacob’s incarceration and the unrest, suggesting the violence aimed to destabilise the economy.

Investigations by SAPS and the NPA are ongoing.
