Orlando Pirates academy graduate Sonwabo Khumalo has joined Chippa United on loan.
The maestro midfielder, who has been making a name for himself in the Motsepe League with Pele Pele FC, has been likened to Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets with his lanky frame and seamless ability to distribute passes anywhere on the pitch.
Former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana coach Augusto Palacios has fond memories of Khumalo during his Soweto tenure and believes he will shine for the Chilli Boys.
“He is from my academy. I promoted him to Pirates,” confirmed Peruvian coach Palacios.
“He is a very good player, both defensive and attacking. He has a good height and technique. I believe he has potential if he can take his football seriously. He trained with the first team, and I believe was later loaned out,” the 73-year-old added.
“As I said, he has huge potential if he can take his football seriously.”
Mofokeng on the move?
“There have been enquiries from Barcelona on Relebohile Mofokeng,” a Siya source confirmed.
“The boy has been monitored by the coaches of the Barcelona B team with interest. They have been following him and made approaches with some of their contacts in the PSL, including certain coaches they know closely, asking about the player,” they added.
“He is a player with potential to play in some of the top leagues in Europe and the feedback has been positive on the enquires made.”
Other clubs monitoring Mofokeng are Al Ahly and RB Salzburg.
