Late applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners’ placement in Gauteng schools for the current academic year will close on Monday, 27 January 2025. The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) opened late applications from 11 December 2024.
Who can apply?
Late applications are open for parents or guardians who did not supply all the required documents, such as proof of home address, in their previous application and also for those who have not submitted an application before.
It is important to note that only schools with available space will be listed on the system as an option. The GDE emphasised that parents should only apply to one school and note that placement by the Department at the chosen school is automatic and final.
Gauteng school applications: Apply online
Follow these steps to apply online:
Step 1 – Parents or guardians must register their details on the system. They will then receive an SMS with a username and password to log in to the system.
Step 2– Log in and register the learner’s details such as their home address.
Step 3 – Select the school you want to apply to. You should receive a confirmation SMS.
Step 4– The final step is to upload certified copies of the required documents within seven days of the application.
The following documents must be uploaded (certified digital copies):
- Parent ID/Passport/Refugee permit, Asylum Seeker Permit/Permanent Residence Permit, Study Permit,
- Child’s SA birth certificate,
- Proof of home address,
- Latest school report (for Grade R or Grade 7),
