Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye is predicting a repeat of the 2013 CAF Champions League final which saw Orlando Pirates lose to Al Ahly.
The 39-year-old analyst believes the Red Devils are the team to beat this season. The Egyptian giants have won the comeptition 13 times.
Despite their recent win over Al Ahly, Khanye doesn’t give Orlando Pirates a chance of winning the final. He predicted Jose Riveiro to reach the semis or final but either way, he expects them to lose to the Egyptian giants.
“Al Ahly will win this tournament. Pirates can lose in the semi final or the final, between those two. Winning the trophy. No, Al Ahly is going to win the final, write it down,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.
“But I don’t take anything from Pirates, they did very well and showed character against Al Ahly, they have top-class players.
Khanye predicts Orlando Pirates to lose to Al Ahly in the final
The ex-Chiefs star has ruled out Mamelodi Sundowns’ chances of winning the competition.
“I don’t see Mamelodi Sundowns progressing to the final, I am very straightforward, maybe they can reach the semi-finals, but I don’t see them in the final,” he added.
“I am very disappointed with how Sundowns played today. They dominated the game but they couldn’t create chances. They tend to be a team that scores one goal and defends, and this can not work for them, Cardoso should fix that. But well done for these big two teams, it shows that there is an improvement in the country.”
Orlando Pirates and Ah Ahly met in the 2013 CAF CL final with the Red Devils winning 3-1 on aggregate.
