EFF to report Kenny Kunene to SAHRC over social media post

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it will report Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kenny Kunene to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) for his social media post on illegal miners in South Africa.

On Sunday, Kunene took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an image of what appears to be two goats that have been slaughtered, skinned, and hung on hooks and suggested that this is the fate that awaits illegal miners in South Africa should his party come into power.

EFF TO REPORT KENNY KUNENE TO HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL

Kunene’s post comes just days after scores of illegal miners who were initially believed to be trapped at a shaft at the Buffelsfontein gold mine in Stilfontein resurfaced.

A total of 78 bodies of alleged zama zamas were retrieved this week during a government-led operation.

To date, close to 2000 illegal miners have been retrieved underground, and most are undocumented illegal immigrants from Mozambique, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.

This is not the first time Kunene has been on the spotlight for his controversial remarks. During a panel discussion earlier this week on Newzroom, Afrika Kunene said he has no sympathy for illegal miners as they are committing treason by stealing the wealth of South Africa.

“I have absolutely no sympathy. They must die like rats underground there, all of them. They must burn in hell,” he said.

The EFF said Kunene’s comments represent the lowest level of opportunism and are the hallmarks of sadistic and pathological commitment to dehumanisation and an infatuation with genocide.

The Red Berets said they are appalled that a government official, who is tasked with a major responsibility in the executive of the City of Johannesburg, has no regard for the rule of law and natural justice, and uses his platform to spew unadulterated hate.

“It is even more concerning that he expresses that the political party he leads, which already has representation in national government, will slaughter and skin human beings, showing no regard for the Constitution of South Africa, within which the right to life is enshrined.

“The EFF will therefore report Kenny Kunene to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) for his reckless comments, as they are a clear indication that he intends to contest electoral power in order to commit human rights violations and targeted killings and mutilations of human beings. Further to this, the EFF will approach the City of Johannesburg’s Ethics Committee to impose sanctions on Kenny Kunene who serves as a Councillor in the City and sits on the Executive,” EFF spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys said.
