Why Chiefs and Pirates won’t sign Oswin Appollis

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been jostling for the services of Polokwane winger Oswin Appollis.

However, neither have gotten close to signing the Bafana star as Polokwane chairman Johnny Mogaladi remains reluctant to let his top talent leave.

Making negotiations trickier is that they’re trying to buy in the January transfer window – the shortest transfer period – meaning Polokwane will need to know they have a suitable replacement for Appollis before selling.

“It won’t be easy for them [Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates] in January,” KickOff confirmed.

“A deal in January leaves the club little chance to find a replacement. So, there is already that. Then if it’s a local team, then that’s another problem, you see. But it’s football, anything happens, but it would be crazy money for him now.”

What’s happening with Basadien?

Stellenbosch defender Fawaaz Basadien is another Bafana player being tipped for a move to Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates; according to reports, the latter is preparing a substantial bid:

“With Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns having so far failed to sign Stellenbosch FC and Bafana Bafana left-back Fawaaz Basadien, Orlando Pirates have a plan, and they have joined the scene with the aim of signing him,” a source confirmed.

“They could offload captain Innocent Maela together with Paseka Mako to get Basadien. They have come up with that strategy as they want to strengthen their left-back position in the quest to conquer both locally and in Africa, and that is why they want to move in for Basadien. So, that’s what is believed to be their plan for now to attract Basadien to Pirates.”
