The Matric class of 2024 is currently celebrating the results of their hard work in their schooling careers and South Africans are certainly celebrating with them.

In a nation where each child faces so many challenges, the moment they can truly say they have made it is truly a joyous occasion. But it takes a village to raise a child and seeing the immense support the Matrics have from unexpected places is nothing short of heartwarming.

Matric students wake principal with singing

An inspirational video of Matric students waking their school principal with song and dance on the day they would receive their results has gone viral.

The students of Hlokoma High School in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, are seen eagerly waiting for their principal Sikelelwa Billie at the gate of her home.

“This is so beautiful! Hlokoma High School Matriculants. Waking up their acting principal of the School (Miss Sikelelwa Billie) at her Home with jubilation.” mashèsha, @_mashesha

She is one of a kind: Principal praised

Many netizens expressed the view that the love shown for Billie is a sign that the principal is ‘doing something right’ with her students.

“And mara when school kids love you, you’re definitely doing something right.” @Ripanzell, Rivoningo

Interestingly, a former student at the school came forward to share that this was not an isolated incident.

“This is beautiful. She taught me Biology from grade 8 to grade 12. She is one of a kind usis Norooi. Well done to the team.” Michael Payiya, @MichaelPayiya

Matric 2024 results an overall success

Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube announced the official 2024 matric exam results earlier this week. Overall, the matric class of 2024 achieved a record 87.3% pass rate which improved on the 82.9% pass rate achieved by the class of 2023.

Gwarube highlighted that KwaZulu-Natal had achieved the highest number of Bachelor passes nationally.

“In 2024, I am pleased to announce that KwaZulu-Natal achieved the highest number of Bachelor passes with 84 470, followed by Gauteng with 66 979 and the Eastern Cape with 45 662. I am also incredibly encouraged by the fact that approximately 67% of the Bachelor passes achieved in 2024 came from Quintile 1 to 3 schools, which are typically found in our poorer communities. This percentage represents an increase from 2023,” Siviwe Gwarube
