SABRINA CARPENTER AT ‘TINY DESK’
The pop sensation joked about NPR’s work environment. She quiped, “I wanna work here! Are you looking for anyone?”
The intimate performance showcased her knack for storytelling, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at her songwriting process, according to Teen Vogue.
Carpenter opened with Taste, a vibrant track that set the tone for the show.
SABRINA CARPENTER’S STYLE
Sporting a sky-blue dress and matching lace stockings, she joked about the venue’s minimalistic charm.
“When I first started, it was kind of in a room like this—dry walls, no reverb,” she said. “But there’s something so real about it. It’s special.”
Known for her cheeky lyrics, Carpenter reminisced about her “explicitly horny” reputation. It was born from her improvised Nonsense outros on tour, according to Billboard.
“Those outros were a happy accident,” she said, laughing. “They gave me this limitless feeling when writing Short ‘n Sweet. It felt like anything was possible.”
SABRINA CARPENTER AND BED CHEM
The highlight of the performance was her heartfelt story about Bed Chem.
This is a track inspired by an unusual moment with her best friend Paloma.
The two shared a king bed, syncing their sleep patterns perfectly. “I thought, ‘We have really good bed chem,’” Carpenter joked.
“Then I met a guy, and, well… she doesn’t profit from the song, but I give her a lot of credit!”
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE
Switching gears, she introduced Please Please Please and teased a snippet of Slim Pickins.
Her Dolly Parton-esque twang charmed the audience as she praised the NPR office. “This seems like such a fun place to work!” she said, grinning.
Carpenter’s Grammy-nominated track Espresso brought the show to its climax.
Sharing the origins of her infamous Juno lyric, she said, “It started as a joke with friends—‘Make you wanna make me Juno.’
It’s my cheeky way of saying, ‘Knock me up, please.’ Sorry, by the way,” she laughed, apologising to her band for her candid humour.
