These young victims, all friends, reportedly fell gravely ill after consuming chips from a local spaza shop, leading to symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, and frothing at the mouth.

In the wake of this heart-wrenching event, local residents have expressed their suspicions regarding the potential cause, with many pointing to rat poison as a possible factor behind the fatalities.
Detrimental signs of negligence were highlighted when police allegedly discovered rat poison at one of the spaza shops implicated in this case. Dumisani Manisela, father of seven-year-old Zinhle Maama, confirmed this alarming finding, stating, “When I went to the police station, they said they found rat poisoning in the snacks that they ate.”
