Kaizer Chiefs have always been known for producing as well as signing the best goalkeepers around the local game.

Chiefs have had Banks Sethlodi, William Shongwe, Brian Baloyi, Rowen Fernandez and Itumeleng Khune in the past.

Khune perhaps spoilt Chiefs by his longevity. He spent 20 years in the first team with about 17 of them as first choice. But since his decline and injuries, Amakhosi have struggled to have a commanding goalkeeper in about five years.

Chiefs have struggled to find a goalkeeper

Khune was released from Chiefs at the end of the previous season, with no official news of a retirement. He has since left the likes of Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen and new goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari at the club. Now have convinced the fanbase, and the first two names failed to make the fans forget about Khune too.

Club legend and one of the goalkeeping greats mentioned above in Baloyi said he recommended a keeper to Chiefs. This in the form of current Stellenbosch FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masulukewho was rejected by the powers that be!

Baloyi offered Masuluke

“When I was at Chiefs as a goalkeeper coach with Steve (Komphela as head coach), I had the pleasure of training him (Masuluke) and I advised Chiefs to sign him and they didn’t. I think today he would still be playing, he would be number one. When I trained him, it was the Erst time he had a goalkeeper training. He had never had a goalkeeper coach, but he was able to play at that level, being nominated at the Balloon d’Or – obviously it was not for his goalkeeping.” Baloyi said to Metro FM Sports as per KickOff.com.

Baloyi believes Masuluke had the personality to be a Chiefs goalkeeper.

“But to be a goalkeeper, you need to be a little bit crazy. You’ll never have someone who has both technical (abilities) and has thick skin, character. So, Oscar (Masuluke) has that, this is someone you can take a chance on. You won’t improve him much on his technical because he’s old, but he has something you can work with. You’d rather have someone like that, especially at a big club, than a goalkeeper who is talented but has no character,” the Chiefs legend continued.

Chiefs fans do you think Masuluke would’ve been a success? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings below.
