Kaizer Chiefs’ darling to sign three-year contract extension

Kaizer Chiefs are preparing a lucrative three-year contract extension for one of their adored fan favourites. Here’s the latest.

Mdu Shabalala set for bumper new Kaizer Chiefs deal

According to Soccer-Laduma, 20-year-old Mduduzi Shabalala will be rewarded with a three-year contract extension. The winger, converted into a number 10 this season, has featured in all nine of Chiefs’ Betway Premiership clashes. Shabalala, whose current deal expires in June 2025, has three goals and an assist in the league this term.

“The club (Chiefs) is making sure they keep almost all their valued youngsters because in the past they have lost some of them to rivals and that’s why they have offered Mdu (Shabalala) another three-year contract. You remember he signed a three-year contract in June 2022 until June 2025? And the one the club has tabled now will take his stay at Naturena until at least June 2028. That’s what the club is looking at,” said a source.

“At the moment we can’t say it’s a done deal already. But he is a Kaizer Chiefs youth product and he loves to be at the club and that works well in the negotiations as both the club and player need each other. So it looks positive that before the end of the current season, Mdu (Shabalala) would have put pen to paper on a new three-year contract,” said a second source.

Amakhosi eye out Salum as a replacement for Sirino

Publicly, Chiefs are backing Gaston Sirino who allegedly feigned injury and refused to train in recent weeks. Tanzanian playmaker Feisal Salum is commanding a massive new pay rise with his current club Azam FC. Simba SC and Kaizer Chiefs are both lurking with considerable intent. According to The Citizen, Amakhosi have the funds to out-bid Azam and offer him improved terms. However, the Chiefs face a tough stage of negotiations if they want to lure the midfielder away from his homeland. The attacking midfield maestro scored 19 goals last term. He’s already hit doubles figures this season too.

“You see with the Sirino story it is a bit tricky. Management is supporting him. And actually, that’s where the problem is. The coach didn’t recommend his signing. He was signed by management with recommendations from scouts and agents. At the moment he is one of the team’s best players and he has to play. But if the coach had another player who plays in that position then he would be using that player and not Sirino. As for the indiscipline – he is not (a troublemaker). He is a senior player and he leads by example and management likes and supports him,” a Soccer Ladumasource confirmed.
