Springbok coach Rassie Erasmu’s public salary disclosure has been a hot topic on social. But while there has been some chatter about the figure, South Africans firmly believe he deserves to be paid more!
The Boks boss helped SA win back-to-back World Cup titles in 2019 and 2023. However, he was recently snubbed by World Rugby’s Coach of the Year category.
HOW MUCH DOES RASSIE ERASMUS EARN – AND WHO PAYS IT?
According to RUCK.co.uk, Rassie Erasmus is one of the second highest-paid rugby coaches in the world.
The UK sports site claims the Springboks coach earns £650 000 – or roughly R15 million – per annum. This means he takes home around R1,5 million each month.
Rassie is paid by SA Rugby, which he was previously the director of.
Interestingly, the world’s England boss, Steve Borthwick – who is the highest paid with a £700 000 or R16 million salary – was not behind the country’s only Rugby World Cup win in 2003.
Meanwhile, South Africa boasts four World Cup titles: 1995, 2007, 2019, and 2023, the latter two under Rassie Erasmus’s guidance.
‘TRIPLE IT’ SAY RUGBY FANS
On social media, many Springbok fans have hailed Rassie Erasmus as a national treasure. Many more believe he should be paid much more than he earns.
Here’s what a few had to say…
@JosephM_____:“Can his salary be tripled? It is well deserved.”
@Ivan_Deetlefs: “Give the man a raise!”
@phunkydeep: “We all know Rassie is underpaid. Anyone from the six nations will gladly give him a blank cheque.
@debbieflorence: “He deserves more! Plus a bonus for making South Africa hopeful, happy and proud”.
@DavidHe47654658: “He’s so much more than a rugby coach. He does more for nation-building than the president. Fact”
