Mamelodi Sundowns star future in question as game time becomes less.

Sundowns defender Rushine de Reuck is drawing attention as his future at the club hangs in the balance. With his contract potentially not being renewed at the end of the season, rival club SuperSport United is reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

De Reuck, 28, has struggled for game time at Sundowns this season due to fierce competition in the central defense. The likes of Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Mosa Lebusa, and rising talent Malibongwe Khoza have solidified their spots, leaving De Reuck with limited opportunities.

“With Malibongwe Khoza coming in and doing well at Sundowns, it appears De Reuck’s chances of featuring regularly at any point are slim,” a source shared. Injuries have further hindered De Reuck’s progress, allowing other players to cement their roles while he worked on his recovery.

So far this season, De Reuck has only managed three appearances across all competitions. His standout moment came in the CAF Champions League second round, where he played the full 90 minutes against Mbabane Swallows. His other two appearances were brief substitute roles in Betway Premiership matches against Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City.

SuperSport’s defensive rebuild in focus

SuperSport United seems to be planning for the future, with an eye on bolstering their defensive lineup. Club captain Thulani Hlatshwayo, a seasoned leader, is nearing the twilight of his career, prompting the team to consider younger reinforcements.

“SuperSport is believed to be planning ahead, especially with captain Thulani Hlatshwayo not getting any younger,” another source revealed. “De Reuck is an option, but a decision is only likely to be made at the end of the campaign.”

De Reuck’s limited minutes at Sundowns might serve as an indication to potential suitors that he is fit and ready for a fresh start. A move to SuperSport could provide him the opportunity to reignite his career and secure consistent playing time.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Mamelodi Sundowns’ decision regarding De Reuck’s future. Meanwhile, SuperSport United could make their move. Aiming to strengthen their squad with a proven defender who has plenty to offer.
