HOW GRADE 9 PUPIL DIED

The Citizen reported on Thursday, 28 November that Hoërskool Wonderboom confirmed the death of the grade 9 pupil Wessel Lourens last week.

The publication adds that the Pretoria school has denied allegations of bullying after the TikToker committed suicide.

Hoërskool Wonderboom also reveals that Lourens saw the school’s counsellor throughout the year about other private matters.

Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) spokesperson Steve Mabona said Lourens committed suicide while at home.

“Our psycho-social support team was dispatched to the school to offer necessary support to all affected by this unfortunate incident. We continue to urge learners to reach out to support structures and resources we have made available in instances where they might be facing any challenges,” he said.

Mabona also comforted Lourens’ family and the school community. Lourens was famously known for his tea content on TikTok.

Social media users took to the TikToker’s account to pay tribute to him.
