An eight-hour power outage is set to affect 40 suburbs in Johannesburg, starting from Tuesday, 18 February 2025, to Thursday, 20 February 2025 and will occur at different time intervals for each suburb.
REASON FOR OUTAGE
The reason for the power outage is essential work that needs to be done on the electricity network, which will ensure better service provision.
“As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” the statement read.

At Wemmer Substation, the power outage will occur on Tuesday, 18 February 2025. The outage will start from 8:00 to 16:00 in the following suburbs:

TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR APPLIANCES DURING A POWER OUTAGE
- Unplug your appliances – According to Powertime, when there’s a power outage, make sure that you unplug all your appliances and only plug them in once power has been restored.
- Upgrade your wiring system – Hire an electrician to inspect your wiring, as faulty wiring can damage connected appliances.
- Open an insurance policy – it is advisable to have an insurance policy that covers your appliances should you experience power surges.
