UTILITY POLE FIXED AFTER LEFT-LEANING FOR MORE THAN THREE WEEKS

A damaged utility pole has been fixed after it was left leaning for over three weeks in Mogale City following an incident of cable theft.

According to Krugersdorp News, residents Elaine van Aswegen (49) and Theresa Gerber (55) heard a noise outside their home on Trezona Avenue. Upon inspecting the source of the noise, they saw suspects stealing electrical cables which left a nearby pole hanging.

Van Aswegen stated he reported the unstable pole multiple times. However, despite many complaints, the city officials dismissed Van Aswegen’s concerns.

“We kept reporting it, but nothing was done,” said Van Aswegen.

Ward 9 councillor Lynette Zwankhuizen said Mogale City’s electricity division was forced to hire a crane to remove the unstable pole as the one the city had was out of service.

“There was a delay because the municipality’s crane had mechanical issues. As a result, we had to wait for a hired crane before the pole could be repaired,” said Zwankhuizen.

Eventually, the pole was fixed on 7 March 2025. However, some residents believe if they fixed the pole sooner, the extra costs would have been avoided.

Van Aswegen said, “The repairs should have been done immediately, not after three weeks of back-and-forth. If the city had acted sooner, the extra cost to ratepayers could have been avoided.”

It is advised that with service-related issues, residents should send a WhatsApp to 083 787 2814 and call the customer service centre on 0861 664 253.
