City Power Johannesburg has announced that there will be a planned power outage affecting 24 suburbs. The outage will occur on different days and will last for eight hours.
REASON FOR OUTAGE
City Power Johannesburg stated that the interruption is necessary for maintenance work on their electricity network.
“As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” the statement read.
AFFECTED AREAS
These are the 24 suburbs that will be affected by the power outage and the dates:
TUESDAY, 28 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at Bordeaux Substation from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following areas:
TUESDAY, 28 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at the Domkrag Switching Station from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following area:
WEDNESDAY, 29 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at Staugh Vorster Switching Station from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following areas:
- 15th and 16th Road
- Pharmaceutical on 16th Road
THURSDAY, 30 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at Lotus Substation from 8:00 to 16:00 in the following areas:
- Hospital Hill
- Vlakfontein
MONDAY, 03 February 2025. The power interruption will occur at Alexandra Substation from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following areas:
- Far East Bank
- Far East Bank Ext. 1, 2, 6, 7
- Lombardy East
- Lombardy West
- Marlboro
- Wynberg
- Kew
- Bramley View Ext. 6
TUESDAY, 04 February 2025. The power interruption will occur at Jan Smuts Switching Station from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following areas:
- Florida Park
- Floriday
- Portion of Florida CBD
THURSDAY, 20 February 2025. The power interruption will occur at Glen Lea Substation from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following areas:
- Lea Glen
- Fleurhof
- Rand Water
FRIDAY, 21 February 2025. The power interruption will occur at Stormill Switching Station from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following areas:
- Stormill
- Highgate Mall
- Putcotin
CITY POWER JOHANNESBURG ADDRESSES MULTIPLE OUTAGES
City Power Johannesburg stated that they are currently responding to multiple outages within the city. So far, there have been 572 open calls, with 476 of the calls reported in the last 24 hours.
These are the updates for some substations facing an outage:
Bree Substation: The first stolen cable has been identified and additional tests on various devices are being conducted. Once tests have been completed, residents will be advised on the repair and restoration strategies.
The affected areas are Bree, Bank City, Kerk, Pritchard, JCI Building and Southern Sun facilities.
Fort Substation: The power restored is currently at 90% after disruption at the SoperRoad distributor, which affected areas such as Berea, Joubert Park and nearby areas. The replacement for a faulty mini substation has been completed and is ready for restoration.
Kazerne Substation: The power restored is currently at 70% after an interruption at the Durban Street West distributor. The outage affected Marshalltown, Maboneng, Jewel City, Jeppe, Kwa Mai Mai and Village Main.
Van Beek Substation:The power restored currently sits at 90 after a disruption that affected Marshalltown. Repairs for the remaining 10% are currently taking place.
