According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa, the women were sleeping when unknown suspects broke into their home in the early hours of a Tuesday and shot them.
Both women died on the scene from gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

Acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, has condemned the growing violence against vulnerable people.
“Violence against women, children and elderly people is unacceptable. The South African Police Service is committed to protecting the vulnerable against the rise in gender-based violence,” she said.
Kupiso urged police investigators to work urgently to arrest those responsible and bring them to justice.
