The City of Tshwane has confirmed a planned 14-hour water interruption on Tuesday, 15 April, due to maintenance work by Rand Water. The water utility will replace and upgrade the Rosalyn North Water Meter during this time, with work expected to run from 6:00 until 20:00.

The shutdown will affect both residential and industrial zones, including major facilities such as the BMW Vehicle Distribution Centre, Inbex SAB, Nampak, Nkwe Estate, the Rosslyn Industrial area, and RW Hartebeeshoek Direct (SAB) PRV 1.

“This essential work is expected to take 14 hours,” the City stated.

“[We] sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that may be encountered.”

City Urges Residents to Save Water

Ahead of the shutdown, the City has appealed to all residents to use water sparingly and adopt temporary conservation habits. Officials have provided a list of suggestions to help mitigate the effects of the interruption.

Residents are advised to avoid watering gardens, washing cars, or cleaning driveways with hosepipes. In addition, they are urged to refrain from filling swimming pools, to flush toilets only when necessary, and to close running taps while brushing teeth.

“Reduce daily water usage as much as possible,” the City requested.

These measures are seen as vital to ease the impact on supply levels during the maintenance period.

Critical Work for Long-Term Supply Stability

The upgrade of the Rosalyn North Water Meter is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve water infrastructure across Tshwane. Although disruptions are inconvenient, such upgrades aim to ensure more reliable service in the future.

The city hopes to inform affected communities proactively so that residents and businesses can plan accordingly. The city has not indicated whether water tankers will be deployed in the affected areas.
