CITY POWER JOHANNESBURG CONTINUES THEIR MISSION OF REMOVING ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS
City Power Johannesburg has disconnected illegal connections worth R500 000 in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.
According to EWN, the utility’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, disclosed that some of the recovered cables were sold to employees within the entity.
He said, “Within City Power, these are cables taken by our employees or contractors, who then help informal settlements reconnect. But we’ve been clamping down on that.”
The illegal connections in the city put pressure on the grid, posing a risk to communities and technicians.
In other news, Load shedding remains suspended due to a stable power system.
“Load shedding remains suspended and the power system stable with sufficient capacity to meet the long weekend’s demand. Emergency reserves are adequate and will continue to be utilised strategically to meet peak demand,” stated Eskom.
However, ongoing power maintenance will continue at 15.41% of generation capacity, marking a 3.8% increase from last year.
Eskom is set to announce to announce its winter outlook at a later stage in April 2025.
