More swimming pools set to reopen in Cape Town

City of Cape Town residents can look forward to even more swimming facilities this summer, now that the city has announced that 10 more pools are scheduled for reopening over the coming weeks.

According to the City, a phased reopening plan is currently in place to ensure that 37 municipal pools are fully operational by the end of the summer season, which concludes during the Easter holidays in April 2025.

At present, 27 of these swimming pools are open to the public, with the rest set to open over the next few months.

“Swimming pools are more than just recreational facilities –  they’re essential spaces for our communities to connect, stay active and enjoy safely. While we acknowledge some delays, we are committed to getting every pool ready to the highest standards. Thank you for your patience as we work to provide quality facilities,” Councillor Patricia Van der Ross, Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health said in a statement.

When will they reopen?

The reopening of the additional pools are expected as follows:

  • Between 8 and 12 January 2025: Westridge, Eastridge and Khayelitsha are anticipated to reopen.
  • Then between 13 and 19 January 2025: Ruyterwacht, Strand, Manenberg, Ravensmead, Monwabisi (subject to electrical work by Eskom) are expected to reopen.
  • Next, between 20 and 27 January 2025 Goodwood swimming pool is anticipated to reopen.
  • Then finally between 3 and 9 February 2025 Bellville South is expected to reopen.
