Zwane shares thoughts on AmaZulu’s struggles in past 2 seasons

Newly appointed AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane has shared his thoughts on the club’s struggles in the past two seasons.

Zwane recently left his senior academy coach role at Kaizer Chiefs and will now partner with Vusumuzi Vilakazi to spearhead Usuthu following the dismissal of Pablo Franco Martin.

The pair has been entrusted with the critical task of revitalising the club, which has not met the expectations set forth by its ambitious chairman, Sandile Zungu. He deems Usuthu as a top-four club in the league.

The KZN side has finished outside the top eight in the last two seasons, missing out on MTN8 twice in a row.

Zwane feels there have been multiple factors behind the club’s rocky road in the past 24 months including injuries and change of coaches due to lack of results.

He says hitting the ground will foster confidence within the team as they aim to restore stability.

“The game of football is always unpredictable. Look at how many players they brought on board, quality players,” said Zwane.

“Injuries, suspensions and many other things that you may never know of may have destabilise the good thing that they were cooking.

“The coaches as well, as you know it’s a game of results, the game of numbers, it’s all about that.

“Even with us, we just want to hit the ground running. But sometimes we need to strike the balance in terms of knowing what’s happening in development structures.

“It’s our responsibility as coaches and it must benefit the young ones because the team has invested a lot of money and time in those youngsters.

“So, they must also be given an opportunity to shine.”

Zwane and Vilakazi will guide AmaZulu for the first time on Friday, 18 October against Stellenbosch FC in a Carling Knockout Cup clash at King Zwelithini Stadium.
