Richards Bay FC head coach Brandon Truter has pointed out the root cause of the club’s struggles this season and previous campaigns.
The ‘Natal Rich Boyz’ suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday night at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
This was their fourth consecutive league loss and their fifth overall this season. The team has only managed one win and two draws.
Truter acknowledged the need for reinforcements but admitted that the club’s budget limitations prevent them from making significant additions to the squad.
TRUTER SAYS HE’LL KEEP ON WORKING WITH WHAT HE HAS
“The only way to change the situation is by getting positive results. There’s not much you can do in terms of changing overnight, a structure in terms of changing a lot of things, a bit more quality, and that’s going in the market to find players,” said Truter.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have that budget or that luxury. So we’ll have to keep on working.”
Truter emphasised that Richards Bay have faced struggles in the past two seasons, leading to a “mental block” among the players.
He believes that this is an external factor unrelated to football that the club must overcome to find a lasting solution rather than constantly changing coaches.
‘BRAKKIES’ BELIEVES RICHARDS BAY HAVE TO DEAL WITH PLAYERS’ ‘MENTAL BLOCK’
“Look, we’re not a bad team at all. I think it’s more mental, in terms of the mental toughness, in terms of where we find ourselves and the will to win,” he added.
“We were so cautious, so reluctant at times to actually go out and attack Chiefs in the first half. But we sat back and hoping to get on the counter. Once you play like that, the fear of losing is greater than the [will] to win.
“And that’s what we’re lacking at the moment. With the results like that, it becomes a mental block. It becomes another obstacle that you have to overcome.
“Never mind the opponent or what they present or the environment. But these are things that are not in football. It’s outside football.
“So you have to look at that. How can we help the player? It’s not the first time Richards Bay has been in this situation. It’s been two seasons ongoing now.
“You can change plenty of coaches, but if you don’t solve the problem, you’ll always stay there. And I think that’s the issue at this moment.”
