Although Thabo Rakhale had previously entertained the idea of retiring from football, the dribbling wizard has explained why hanging up his boots isn’t part of his plans at the moment.

Rakhale, renowned for his exceptional dribbling skills and flair, has had a notable career in the SA elite league at several teams. He is particularly remembered for his time at Orlando Pirates, where he showcased his talent from 2014 to 2018. During this period, Rakhale made 87 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

After his stint with Pirates, Rakhale continued his career with various PSL clubs, including Chippa United, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, and Sekhukhune United. Prior to that, he had also played for now-defunct Sivutsa Stars and Polokwane City FC.

Currently, the 34-year-old is plying his trade in the Botswana Premier League with Township Rollers. His contract with the club is set to expire in June 2025. However, Rakhale is currently sidelined due to a torn right Achilles tendon and has yet to feature in the ongoing season.

In an interview with FARPost, Rakhale candidly revealed that he had considered retirement in the past. However, he has since changed his mind, believing he still has much to contribute to the sport in the remaining years of his career.

“It did cross my mind at some point [retirement],” Rakhale told FARPost. “But one of the coaches I once worked with a long time ago told me not to do it.

“Now, I still believe I have a lot to offer in playing football. So for now, let me just finish a few years I’m left with in my career.”

Having worked with so many different coaches in his playing career, Rakhale went on to single out Clinton Larsen as his favourite.

“I have worked with lots and lots of coaches in my career, and every coach played his own part in my football career. But I can say my favourite is Clinton Larsen.”
