Why Orlando Pirates DID NOT sign any players this transfer

Orlando Pirates are one of the few teams to not have signed any new players this January transfer.

Instead, the Soweto giants offloaded three players last month which are Gilberto, Sandile Mthethwa and Katlego Otladisa. The Buccaneers were linked with several players including Jayden Adams and Oswin Appollis but nothing materialised.

With the transfer window officially closed, Orlando Pirates will have to now finish the season with the squad they have. The Buccaneers coach Jose Riveiro has explained why the club opted not to bring in new players.

“From my perspective, what I can tell you is, we have 37 players in the squad right now – quality and experienced, and good conditions in every position,” he stated as per SABC Sport.

“As usual, our obligation as a club is to keep one eye on the market in each and every transfer window, but the fact that this time it didn’t happen, it doesn’t mean that it won’t happen in the future, or course, or that we are not doing our job,” said the Pirates caoch.

“So far the 37 players we have are the ones that must take us to the place where we want to be at the end of the season, and that’s it,” Riveiro said ahead of the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs.

Orlando Pirates faces a side which signed three new players this January transfer period. Amakhosi have looked sharp in the past three matches and could surprise the Sea Robbers at the FNB Stadium.
