Kaizer Chiefs have made a number of big transfer decisions over the past two months.
The Glamour Boys have signed Makabi Lilepo, Tashreeq Morris and Thabo Cele however there were also departures.
Mduduzi Mdantsane and Christian Saile both left the club in January while Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s departure came as a major surprise to many.
Ditlhokwe joined Libyan giants Al Ittihad, and now an explanation has been given regarding the Botswana captain’s abrupt departure.
Why Kaizer Chiefs sold R16 million rated defender
According to reports, Kaizer Chiefs received a ‘lucrative’ offer for Ditlhokwe from Libya which they couldn’t refuse.
“The feeling is that he was not happy with not being a regular. He also felt that he didn’t have the trust of the new technical team. He was not even played in his preferred position sometimes, which is part of the reason he wasn’t happy,” an insider told Citizen.
“Remember when the season started, he was not playing at all, and I told you that a loan would be an option in January. I think this move makes sense for everyone because he’s an important player for Botswana, and they will need him in top form for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco later this year.”
In other related news, Kaizer Chiefs have secured the services of an important first team player for at least one more season.
The Glamour Boys already have one eye on next season, and while much of the focus will be on signing new players, it’s equally important for the club to retain their stars.
The club have reportedly reached an agreement with Edson Castillo to extend his contract at the club.
Castillo signs new contract at Kaizer Chiefs
“I can confirm that Edson will stay for another season, he has renewed his contract with Chiefs and there is also an option to continue for another year,” his agent Mauricio Andrade told iDiski Times.
“Edson is very happy with his extension as it was his desire to continue with club for next years to come. He is committed to help the team win trophies.”
The Venezuelan is currently injured however, head coach Nasreddine Nabi made it clear previously that Castillo will be given a full chance to shine under him.
Nabi described Castillo as, “He’s a good man, he’s a gentleman, I respect him a lot,” to the same publication previously.
