Despite being dubbed one of the best midfielders this country has ever seen, ex-Kaizer Chiefs star Patrick ‘Ace’ Mbuthu disappeared from the limelight, leaving many guessing his whereabouts.

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfield maestro wowed many with his flair and command of the game during the peak of his career.

WHERE IS FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS MIDFIELD MAESTRO PATRICK MBUTHU NOW?

Despite being one of the star players of his time, Patrick Mbuthu has his fair share of drama off-pitch. At some point, the media blasted his social lifestyle during his illustrious career.

In 2003, Kaizer Chiefs gave up on him. From the Soweto giants he joined Manning Rangers.

However, after just a season with the Rangers, Patrick ‘Ace’ Mbuthu pulled one of his disappearing acts, seemingly ending his career.

Since then, he has been keeping his private life under wraps, leaving many to guess about his whereabouts.

However, the publication has since tracked Patrick Mbuthu down. After retiring, the former Kaizer Chiefs midfield settled in Free State.

As of August 2024, Patrick ‘Ace’ Mbuthu worked with the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. However, a rumour mill once revealed that his poor vision often affects his work.

A NEW LEASE ON LIFE

Despite having some troubles with his eyesight in recent years, he received a new lease on life in the form of surgery that possibly improved his poor eyesight.

Last year, Patrick Mbuthu received R20 000 from the Booth Education and Sports Africa (Booth Africa) organisation for eye surgery.

Matthew Booth, founder of the organisation, handed the cheque to the former Kaizer Chiefs star.

Surprisingly, the two were part of the star-studded U-23 team that competed in the finals of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, which were held in Australia.

He explained that the money was part of proceeds from the Clash of Legends, an extended initiative to aid retired football legends.

“I heard about Ace’s plight of poor eyesight from Jabu Mahlangu (formerly Pule), who still has contact with him. So, we immediately decided to help Ace as teammates,” said Booth, former defender of Bafana Bafana.

“Hopefully, this will help to improve Ace’s eyesight so he can join us on the field and in other Legends game initiatives.”
