Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs will be back on the field after midweek’s game against Stellenbosch FC in Gauteng.
BETWAY PREMIERSHIP: KAIZER CHIEFS VS GOLDEN ARROWS
According to the Premier Soccer League, Amakhosi will be at home to Golden Arrows on Sunday, 12 January. Instead of the primary home, FNB Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs have decided to take the match to Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium. Kick off will be at 15:30.
“After a fine win against Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night, Kaizer Chiefs take their 55th birthday celebrations to Durban where they will host Lamontville Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon,” the club confirmed.
“Amakhosi picked up maximum points after coming from behind to beat the Winelands team in their midweek fixture. Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy product Wandile Duba scored a brace which earned him the man of the match award after he helped his team win 2-1.
Kaizer Chiefs added to say: “The match against Arrows will be Amakhosi’s 13th Betway Premiership fixture of the season. Chiefs have picked up 18 points from 12 outings and are in position 5 on the log. Visitors, Arrows, are in 9th spot with 15 points collected in 11 matches.”
55- YEAR CELEBRATION
Meanwhile, the club has released a statement to mark its 55th birthday:
“Today, 7 January 2025, marks a significant milestone in the history of our beloved Kaizer Chiefs as we celebrate the 55th anniversary of our founding in Phefeni, Orlando West in Soweto. It invokes a sense of deep satisfaction and immense pride as we reflect the journey that has brought us to this point – an odyssey filled with passion, patience, dedication, and resilience.
“When I, along with my fellow founding fathers, established Kaizer Chiefs in 1970 following the formation of Kaizer XI, we envisioned more than just a football club; we sought to create a beacon of hope and unity for our community during the difficult times of apartheid in South Africa. From those modest beginnings in Soweto, we aspired to build a legacy that would transcend football – a heritage rooted in the rich culture and spirit of our people. The dream was to provide a platform that would empower and inspire not only players but also our community and supporters, whom we regard as the heart and soul of the Club.
“Over the years, Kaizer Chiefs has evolved into more than just a team; we have become a family of millions. Our supporters have remained steadfastly loyal through thick and thin, celebrating our victories and supporting us in challenging times. To the loyal Amakhosi faithful who have been with us since the beginning, and those who joined our journey later, your unwavering commitment and passion have been instrumental in making Amakhosi the most supported Club in South Africa and one of the biggest in Africa. You are the ones who turn our home and away games into a sea of Gold & Black, creating an atmosphere that few Clubs can rival. This is the reason our mantra for this season is Always Home. This is because we feel at home wherever we play.
“As part of our 55th birthday celebration, we invite all our supporters to join us at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening when the team takes on Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership. It is a fitting occasion to honour our rich history together, and we encourage everyone to don their Gold & Black colours with pride and come together to celebrate this important milestone with us”. – The full statement is available on the club’s website.
