Bafana Bafana play South Sudan on Tuesday, November 19.
Kick-off: 18:00
A win would leave Hugo Broos’ side first on the Group K AFCON qualifiers table, concluding a solid string of games for South Africa.
For the first time in nine years Cape Town’s DHL Stadium will host the game, which is expected to have tens of thousands in attendance – 29,000 tickets have been bought so far.
Chance to end strong
Three days ago, Bafana Bafanabattled it out against Uganda at Mandela National Stadium for a top-of-the-group showdown.
Following a defensive mishap, Thapelo Morena nodded one in before Patrick Maswanganyi put the game to bed with a moment of brilliance in the 89th minute.
Broos is delighted by his teams performance, saying, “Let’s say we win on Tuesday, we will have 14 points and that’s a lot. There were some games we should have won, especially against Uganda at home,
“It was important for us to win here in Uganda and go top in the group. Nobody can say we are lucky, like they said after the defeat of Congo by South Sudan during the week. We proved that we don’t need luck and we can win our own games when it matters the most.
“We will have 14 points if we win on Tuesday and we will be deserving of qualification for Afcon.”
Mokwana player leaves Tunisia
Bafana Bafana’s Elias Mokwana has left Tunisian side Espérance three months after joining the club, following a breach in contract.
“Much of the issues are confidential, can confirm that the club is in breach of the agreement. We provided them with notice to rectify the breach. They have not complied, leaving the player with no option but to accept the repudiation. Elias is focusing on the call-up now and once that is done, we will consider the next step,” said Mokwana’s attorney, Kabelo Mashigo.
