Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed what pleased him about the club’s attacker Thembinkosi Lorch in their match against Golden Arrows in Carling Knockout Cup on Saturday.

The former Orlando Pirates man made a significant impact as a second-half substitute for the Brazilians, helping the team maintain its dominance against Golden Arrows.

Lorch provided an assist for Mothobi Mvala who scored in his first match this season after returning from injury. Additionally, the attacker scored a goal that was subsequently disallowed for offside.

Mngqithi has praised Lorch for the immediate impact he made upon his introduction in the second half, injecting high intensity into Sundowns’ offensive play.

Sundowns’ coach believes that their substitution decisions have been effective in their recent matches.

MNGQITHI ON THEMBINKOSI LORCH – ‘THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I WANT’

“I must say it’s really pleasing to see the substitutes really pushing to show what they have for the team because we’ve got so many matches,” said Mngqithi.

“These few minutes that we give them are usually an opportunity for these players to get a full match and try to rest other players that are more established within the group.

“When you see them coming, playing the way they played today, I think against SuperSport, we also had very good substitutions.

“Against Chiefs, unfortunately, we didn’t lift the game up from the substitutions, but it was really, really pleasing to see how showed the hunger to perform.

“I was very pleased just to see Lorch showing the hunger, the level of intensity, the running off the ball, trying to get into [right] and also having an assist.

“For me, that is exactly what I want from an offensive player. I was very excited when I saw that.”
