Midfielder Luyolo Slatsha has shared lessons he has drawn from Relebohile Mofokeng’s rise in the PSL while sharing the benefits of his leap.

Slatsha is drawing massive inspiration from Relebohile Mofokeng’s rise at Orlando Pirates. Mofokeng has carved a niche under Jose Riveiro and has also made a breakthrough into the Bafana Bafana set-up.

The 22-year-old has heaped praise on Mofokeng, saying the Sebokeng-born attacker’s rise will open more pathways for budding footballers.

Mofokeng is a product of the SAFA-Transnet School of Excellence, where he was scouted by Pirates before the 2022/23 season.

After that, he made an instant impact in both youth and senior ranks at the Soweto giants. Mofokeng has been touted as Themba Zwane’s future replacement.

WHAT SLATSHA HAS LEARNT FROM MOFOKENG

In an interview with FARPost, Slatsha praised Mofokeng for his inspiring rise in the PSL. Most importantly, he reckons Mofokeng’s rise will open up new pathways for more budding footballers.

“I am happy to see my peers doing well. It’s refreshing to see that the future is in our hands now,” he said. “We now have good players coming from our generation. He [Mofokeng] has been doing well among others.

“And I am excited that one way or the other, so many of us young footballers will benefit from this development. I’m learning a lot from this, and I can say my key lesson has been to keep believing and to remain grounded. No matter the talent and qualities you have, you must always be grounded.

“Even if you are talented, the best way to grow is to learn from those ahead of you. The experience they have is very critical in the learning process of a footballer.

“How he has performed at Pirates has been motivating to us. Personally, I admire that, but I have to admit that the impact goes beyond that.

“Furthermore, it shows that it can be done. All we need is to believe, stay humble and work hard so that we can get a breakthrough.”

Mofokeng has done so well since bursting into the PSL. He has had trials at English Premiership side of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

At some point, he was linked with an interest from Levante FC in Spain and Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers, among other sides.

Though no move to Europe has materialised, Mofokeng has been impressive, having been a vital cog as Pirates won the MTN8 title in the new 2024/25 season.
