There’s a lot to digest regarding the current ongoings at Royal AM.

Owned by businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, the Durban outfit, who lie one point above last-placed Magesi FC, are dealing with an array of pressing issues, from players not getting paid to the threat of FIFA sanctions and expulsion from the PSL.

Royal AM have been forced to postpone their clash against Chippa United in light of the situation, with several players going on strike demanding they be released before the January transfer window closes.

Another factor adding to the chaos is Mkhize’s R40 million unpaid tax bill, which has put the club under SARS temporary ownership.

Mkhize speaks

“The club’s management team, led by our CEO and General Manager, has been working diligently with the curator to secure the necessary permissions to release funds for salary payments,” she said in a statement.

“It has always been the ethos of Royal AM to prioritise the well-being of our personnel, and we remain dedicated to upholding that principle despite the current challenges,

“We appreciate the patience and support of our players, staff, and their families during this difficult time. Additionally, we thank our fans, sponsors, and broader stakeholders for their continued trust and loyalty,” Mkhize added.

“Royal AM is committed to preserving the integrity of the club and ensuring its long-term success. We remain optimistic that this situation will be resolved soon, and we will provide timely updates as developments unfold.”

Should Royal AM be exiled?
