South Africans are looking forward to another public holiday on Thursday, 1 May for Workers’ Day.
However, the weather prediction for the country doesn’t look good at all.
Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected in most parts of the country, with severe thunderstorms, damaging winds and waves forecast for the coastal provinces.

A look at the latest update from the South African Westher Service (SAWS) paints an ugly picture!
A day best spent in bed with a good book or perhaps in front of TV?

In terms of the weather forecast in major cities around South Africa, in Johannesburg, a warm day can be expected as temperatures reach a high of 23degrees Celsius, but there is expected to be a fair bit of cloud cover around, while there is also predicted to be some slight showers in the late afternoon and into the evening.
Heading down the coast, Durban looks set for a typically hot and humid day, with heavy cloud cover and early morning showers. Peak temperatures will hover around the early 20s, but there could be some fairly heavy torrential downpours in the evening.
Continuing down the coast to Gqeberha, Thursday looks set to be a mild and pleasant day, with a high of 19 degrees Celsius, and mostly clear skies. However, the Windy City will be living up to its name with indications for strong winds – particularly in the afternoon – when the wind gusts could reach up to 32 knots.
Heading down to the Mother City, it’s predicted to be a chilly public holiday for Cape Town on Thursday as temperatures are only expected to hit a ‘high’ of 15 degrees Celsius.
There could also be some light rain in the morning, with some low level cloud cover and light winds predicted for most of the day.
