Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng has been making headlines of late, with many trying to connect the dots about his future after being sidelined by the Buccaneers since December 2024.

The star last starred for Orlando Pirates in December against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stages.
The club blamed ‘personal issues’ for his absence. However, recently, his parents opened up about Saleng’s woes and made it known that his contract was the problem.
One of his friends revealed to Sunday Worldthat the star was not happy at Orlando Pirates and wanted to leave.
Speaking to Sunday World,the Orlando Pirates star’s father said, “The problem is the contract. We would want him to stick with Pirates because it is one of the biggest clubs in the country.”
However, his alleged salary was also revealed during one of the interviews. Monnapule Saleng is earning around R70 000 at Orlando Pirates.
Reports have it that he had a fallout with the club after he asked for a salary increment. However, the club allegedly declined the offer despite Saleng being among the best players.
According to reports, his salary at Moroka Swallows during the 2021-2022 season was more than he reportedly earns at Orlando Pirates.
Reports have it that Saleng was earning R150 000 on loan. Celebrated sports journalist Austin Ditlhobolo disclosed his Moroka Swallows salary online.
Taking to Facebook, the star posted, “Saleng was on a R150 000 per month salary during his time with Swallows—on loan from Pirates.
“Generally, PSL player contracts increase yearly by 5-10 percent.”

Earlier this week, the publication reported that the ‘star is unhappy’at Orlando Pirates and wants to leave because of his woes with the club.
Close sources to the star revealed that he is set to submit his transfer request at the end of the season.
However, there is a new twist to Saleng’s saga after FarPost reported that the club had exercised its additional two-year option, tying down the star at the club despite his woes.
His contract expires in June 2025, and the additional two years will keep him at Orlando Pirates until 2027.
Little is unknown whether the two-year extension is the reason behind the star’s fallout with the club. However, against the news, the club is yet to confirm the reports that have since set social media abuzz.
