Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show embraces body positivity with inclusive approach

After a four-year break, Victoria’s Secret has changed the narrative advocating for body positivity by appealing to everyone regardless of their size.

Over the years, lingerie and bodywear companies have always appealed to petite women causing quite an abrupt reaction from online users due to them not finding their respective sizes in store.

ABC News reports that the renowned lingerie brand listened to people’s cries by changing its slogan to, A Body for Every Body.

Speaking to the above-mentioned source, one of the creators of The Change.org, Frances Black said:

“We are overjoyed that Victoria’s Secret has listened to the public and changed the wording to ‘A Body for Every Body’, as we feel that this sends out a more inclusive, healthy message. However, we are still waiting for Victoria’s Secret to apologise and pledge that they will not use such harmful marketing in the future, as we do not feel it is enough for them to just change the wording. We would also like them to change all advertising in their stores that still bears the text ‘The Perfect ‘Body”. As such, we will continue promoting the petition and the campaign.”

According to Hooks Magazine, in the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, over 50 plus-size models and trans women were featured on the runway with names such as Ashely Graham and  Graham and Paloma Elsesser, adding that, the fashion returned after facing controversy over the lack of diversity and body positivity in the show.

Head Creative Director of the brand Raúl Martinez said, “This film is the ultimate expression of the Victoria’s Secret brand transformation. It will be driven by fashion, glamour and entertainment with a nod to beloved iconography from the past but in a bold, redefined way.”
