Award-winning veteran actor Don Mlangeni Nawa has passed away at the age of 65. His family shared the heartbreaking news in a statement shared on social media.
The actor was a force to be reckoned with in the South African acting industry, best known for his iconic roles in shows such as Hlala Kwabafileyo, Ubambo Lwami, S’Gudi ‘Snaysi, Isidingo, and The River, among many others.
DON MLANGENI PASSES ON
The film and television industry is mourning the loss of acclaimed actor Don Mlangeni Nawa. His family shared the heartbreaking news in a statement posted on his official Instagram account on Wednesday, 16 April.
“He was the heart of our family — a loving father, brother, and friend. To the world, he was a gifted and respected actor whose presence lit up every stage and screen he graced. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the stories he told, and the love he gave so freely,” read the official statement.
The family expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. They have kindly requested privacy as they grieve their loss. In addition, they shared that details of the memorial and funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
MLANGENI REMEMBERED FOR HIS ICONIC LEGACY IN SOUTH AFRICAN TELEVISION
The actor was widely celebrated for his immense contributions to the creative arts and his unforgettable on-screen performances.
Mlangeni began his career in theatre, later gaining national recognition in 1993 with his role in Hlala Kwabafileyo. He went on to portray iconic characters such as David in Ubambo Lwami, Zebedee Matabane in Isidingo, and Laqhasha in S’Gudi S’naysi, among many others.
His more recent work included roles in shows like The Legacy, Savage Beauty and Uzalo.
He was recognised for his artistic contributions with a Golden Horn Award for Best Actor in 2003 for Isidingo. In 2018, he received the Royalty Soapie Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award, honouring his enduring legacy in South African television and film.
