Unmasked? Orania resident reveals identity of EFF voter

Residents of Orania – South Africa’s whites-only town – are jokingly on the hunt for an individual who voted for the EFF in last year’s general elections.

The revelation was made by actor Siv Ngesi, who documented his visit to the staunch Afrikaner community.

Located in the Northern Cape, the 3000-member-strong settlement was built on private property in 1963.

WHO VOTED FOR EFF?

Last year, a screenshot of the general election results in Orania became a trending topic.

According to the figures, 376 people voted for the VF Plus, 127 selected the DA, and 38 ticked the box of Hope4SA. The numbers dwindled, with a handful of residents voting for the ACDP and other smaller opposition parties.

However, the biggest surprise was that one Orania resident chose to vote EFF during the elections.

The revelation resulted in many jokes and memes about a “traitor” in the Afrikaans community camp.

HUNTING DOWN THE ORANIA ‘REBEL’

In an episode of Joshua Reuben’s Wide Awake Podcast, Siv Ngesi jokingly revealed that he was on a mission to find the lone EFF voter in Orania.

Speaking to residents, Siv discovered that there was much interest in the community about unmasking the “rebel.”

“Everyone was talking about him,” said one man, while another believed that the voter was likely doing it for “attention.”

Orania Movement head Joost Strydom added that he had an idea of who the person could be.

“It was not a joke as far as I know. It was most probably a person from outside Orania who came to the polling station here. Probably a worker from a surrounding farm”.
