Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has reportedly imposed an ‘intense’ training programme for Al Ahly players in order to get them fit for next season.

The 49-year-old coach joined the Red Devils in May after leaving Orlando Pirates. His tenure with the Egyptian giants started on a bad note after his side were eliminated in the group stages of the FIFA Club World Cup.

According to Ahly News, the Spaniard wants his players to be at peak fitness before the season starts and is reportedly set to introduce an intense fitness regimen.

The publication reported that the team is scheduled to undergo thorough medical evaluations before departing for Tunisia to participate in their pre-season training camp.

The Al Ahly coaching staff wants to ensure that all players maintain their ideal fitness and weight.

Jose Riveiro has supposedly instructed the players to stay fit and follow their dietary plans in order to remain in peak condition. He has also stated that there will be penalties for players who exceed the weight limit.

Al Ahly are expected to start their pre-season preparations on 14 July in Tunisia. It was further reported at any player who returns to camp overweight or fails to meet the required fitness standards will face disciplinary action.
