Tyra Banks’ bold dating advice

Tyra Banks, the iconic supermodel and entrepreneur, has never been shy about sharing her life lessons.

This week, she made waves on international television with dating advice. Her message? “Ladies, we do not need to be fishing with a fishing pole. You throw the net, OK?”

TYRA BANKS’ ADVICE FOR WOMEN

Banks, now 51, shared her wisdom while co-hosting TODAYwith Jenna & Friends.

She explained that men often date several women at once, casting a wide net and narrowing down their options.

“So all these men, they throw a net and say, ‘This one, this one, this one, this one’ at the same time,” she said. “They narrow down until they find the one.”

But women, Banks observed, tend to focus on one relationship at a time. And when that single connection fizzles, disappointment follows.

TYRA BANKS ON FINDING ‘THE ONE’

“Throw the net, ladies,” she urged. “And look at them and then go, ‘OK, I want you,’ because that’s what they’re doing to us.”

The pressure to find “the one” can be intense, but Tyra’s approach is about flipping the script.

“I feel like women should be the chief, right?” she declared, echoing the spirit of empowerment that resonates with many South Africans.

A LOVE STORY

Tyra Banks’ own love story is proof. Banks has been with Canadian businessman Louis Bélanger-Martin since 2018.

The couple, who keep their relationship mostly private, made a rare public appearance at the 2022 Time 100 Gala in New York.

When asked if Louis was “one of the fish in the net,” Banks laughed, “Louis was in the net, honey.” Off camera, Bélanger-Martin joked, “I was the only fish!” Banks grinned and replied, “Um… sure.”

She added, “Once I found Louis, I threw those fish out so quick, and I got the best goldfish.”

TYRA BANKS AND HER MAN

Bélanger-Martin, who has supported Banks during her recent TV stint, is more than just a partner.

“He’s super supportive,” Banks shared. “He helps me manage my insecurities and self-doubt. My man is amazing at helping me through those moments.”

Banks’ advice comes with a wink and a nudge. She knows the dating game can be tough, but she wants women to have agency.

CHOOSE YOUR BEST GOLDFISH

“Don’t act like you didn’t have a net!” Tyra Banks teased, reminding everyone that both men and women are playing the field.

So maybe it’s time to cast a wider net. As Tyra says, “Throw the net, ladies. Be the chief. Choose your best goldfish.”
