The 2024/25 Betway Premiership season is now mere weeks away from wrapping up and it appears as if it’s a two-man race for the coveted Golden Boot award.
No surprise perhaps that those two players in contention are both Mamelodi Sundowns stars.
Masandawana have scored by far the most goals this season – 54 in 24 matches.
Next best is Sekhukhune United with 36.
Lucas Ribeiro Costa (13 goals) and Iqraam Rayners (11) are the two men vying for the award with the final outcome likely to go down to the final day of the season.
Mamelodi Sundowns have four more league matches left to play:
Wednesday, 7 May vs Chippa United (H) – 19:30
Sunday, 11 May vs Stellenbosch FC (H) – 15:00
Wednesday, 14 May vs Chippa United (A) – 19:30
Saturday, 17 May vs Magesi FC (H) – 15:00
Last season, Orlando Pirates’ Tshegofatso Mabasa proved to be the deadliest striker in Mzansi with 16 goals.
Once again, no one will break – nor come even close – the all-time PSL record of 25 goals held by Zambia’s Collins Mbesuma while playing for Kaizer Chiefs in the 2004/05 season.
