Tshwane announces a 10-hour power outage affecting 44 areas

The City of Tshwane will implement a 10-hour power outage on Sunday, 10 August, affecting more than 40 areas as technicians perform essential maintenance at the Pyramid Substation.

The electricity shutdown will begin at 8:00 and end at 18:00. It is necessary to safely connect 132kV post insulators and newly installed busbars in the substation yard. The city said the substations are interconnected, so the shutdown is unavoidable for safety reasons.

Power outage due to critical upgrades

City officials confirmed that the Energy and Electricity Department will perform technical work at the Pyramid 132kV Substation.

“The said substations are interconnected and thus in the interest of safety, the city is compelled to shut down power supply,” said the department.

Long list of affected suburbs and businesses

Power will be cut to residential suburbs, industrial parks, and water treatment facilities. The complete list of areas affected by the power outage includes:

HB Powerline, DP Powerline, PP Powerline (Petro Port Garage), Pumulani Toll Gate, Montana Park, Montana Tuine, Montana Estates, Zambezi Country Estates, Doornpoort Extensions, Sinoville Extensions, Kolonnade Mall and Retail Park, GR Powerline, VAe Powerline, VAw Powerline, HK Powerline, EB Powerline, P 94A & B Powerline, Waterworks Treatment Park, N4 Gateway, Waltloo Industrial, Ford and Samcor, Eersterust, Balley Village, Nellmapius Extensions 1, 2, and 4, Donkerhoek, Silverton Extension 5, Willow Park Manor, Samcor Industrial, Silverton, Eastlyn, Waverly, Silvertondale, Lindopark, Waterval Area, Pyramid Clinic, Rooiwal Town, Pyramid Area, Vastfontein Area, Grootfontein Area, and SAR Sub (Railways).

Safety warnings issued

The City of Tshwane urged residentsand businesses to exercise caution during the power outage.

“Residents are urged to always treat all network points as live during electricity supply interruption,” the statement added.
