Richards Bay FC head coach Brandon Truter has disclosed another ambitious target set by the club’s chairman, Jomo Biyela, for the current season.

The club first made its intention clear to secure a position within the top eight this campaign following struggles last season that saw them participating in the PSL promotional/relegation Playoffs.

The Natal Rich Boyz made coaching changes ahead of the start of the season, parting ways with Vusumuzi Vilakazi and appointing Truter.

So far this season, they have secured two victories, two draws, and suffered two losses across six matches in all competitions.

As they strive to establish stability within the league, Truter has indicated that Biyela has expressed a strong desire to lift a trophy should the opportunity arise.

“The chairman made it clear for us. If there’s any possibility of a cup, he would like a trophy this season,” said Truter.

The KZN side is gearing up to take on Cape Town City FC in the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal, aiming to secure a place in the semifinals.

The match will take place on Saturday, 2 November, at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Truter believes this competition presents an opportunity for his side to make history and hoist their first trophy in the top-flight.

TRUTER – ‘CARLING CUP PRESENTS OPPORTUNITY TO LIFT THE TROPHY’

“The Carling Cup and other cups in the league represent that opportunity. The Carling Cup is the first one of the season. Once you’re in a cup, you need to be in it to win it,” added Truter

“That’s why we’re here. There are opportunities there, but the pressure that brings and the pressure of being the only representative of KZN in what that brings is an opportunity for growth as well. We’re a young team.

“Lots of youngsters in us, mixed with some mature players. But all this pressure and all these challenges, we welcome it.”
