Trump slams SA government for ‘land confiscation and genocide’ ahead of G20

United States (US) President Donald Trump has once again criticised the South African government for what he referred to as “land confiscation and genocide” ahead of the G20 meeting scheduled to take place in Johannesburg.

On his Truth Social account, Trump claimed that land belonging to white farmers was being taken in South Africa, and he accused the media of failing to report on this issue.

Trump says land confiscation and genocide are happening in SA?

He said, “How can we be expected to attend the very important G20 Meeting in South Africa when land confiscation and genocide are the primary topics of conversation? They are taking the land of white farmers and then killing them and their families. The media refuses to report on this. The United States has withheld all contributions to South Africa. Is this where we want to be for the G20? I don’t think so.” Trump made this statement on X (formerly Twitter).

Trump and his ally Elon Musk have been particularly vocal following the South African government’s passing of the Expropriation Bill in recent months.

Trump earlier cut aid on SA over ‘land confiscation’

In February, Trump signed an executive order to cut off aid to South Africa, citing what he viewed as racial discrimination against white individuals. He also instructed the US government to provide opportunities for white farmers to relocate from South Africa to the United States.

It was reported that nearly 70 000 South Africans, mainly Afrikaners, have expressed interest in relocating to the US following an offer made by Trump over claims of land confiscation.
