The South African entertainment industry is mourning the heartbreaking loss of veteran actor Don Mlangeni Nawa, who passed away at the age of 65.
A GIANT HAS FALLEN
Widely celebrated for his iconic roles in Isidingo, S’Gudi S‘naysi, Ubambo Lwami, and The River, Mlangeni’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes and condolences across social media and beyond.
On Wednesday, 16 April, his family issued an official statement confirming his passing and shared their heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and support.
“It is with deep heartbreak that we share the passing of our beloved father, Don Mlangeni Nawa, on 16 April 2025. He was the heart of our family — a loving father, brother, and friend.
“To the world, he was a gifted and respected actor whose presence lit up every stage and screen he graced. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the stories he told, and the love he gave so freely, the statement said.
The family has kindly requested privacy as they grieve their loss. Meanwhile, details regarding the memorial and funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

A LASTING LEGACY
Don’s career began in theatre before he moved into television in the early 1990s. His performance in Isidingo earned him the Golden Horn Award for Best Actor in a TV Soap in 2006.
In 2018, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Royalty Soapie Awards, solidifying his place among the greats of South African television.
Despite his fame, he remained deeply grounded, committed to his craft and passionate about elevating local storytelling. May his soul rest in peace!
