The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has confirmed in a statement the recall of three Volvo car models.
Volvo Car South Africa informed NCC of the recall of some of its models over potentially faulty brakes. Find out below which Volvo car models have been affected.
VOLVO RECALLS THREE CAR MODELS
Volvo is recalling the XC90 model made available for sale on 20 January 2023. Another XC90 model affected is the one made available for sale on 29 October 2024. The XC40 MY2024 available for sale on 24 January 2024 has also been recalled.
According to Volvo, investigations revealed that there were potential faults in these car models which led to the recall.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE VOLVO MODELS?
The car manufacturer revealed reasons for the immediate recall of some of their models. Regarding the Volvo XC90 made available for sale in January 2023 and October 2024, a probe pointed to two reasons.
Volvo has stated that a potential software failure in the brake control led to this immediate action. They also said “this leads to a loss of braking support function” in rare cases. A rod between the brake booster and brake pedal that may have not been assembled properly is another cause.
A statement explained: “The XC90 model… is being recalled due to a rod between the brake pedal and brake booster that may not have been assembled according to manufacturing specifications. If the rod detaches, the brake pedal will not work correctly.”

When it comes to the XC40 MY2024, the model’s turn indicator system has been identified as the issue. The problem could cause the left rear turn indicator to not function temporarily. Those affected have been asked to return the vehicles to their supplier or point of purchase. Volvo has also been asked to ensure consumers are informed about the recall.
CAPE HERB & SPICE RECALLS FAULTY GRINDERS
Another recently announced recall is from Cape Herb & Spice over an issue with some of its large grinders. NCC also informed affected parties what they need to do.
Hardin Ratshisusu, NCC Acting Commissioner, said: “NCC urges consumers in possession of these spices to immediately stop using them and return them to the supplier or point of purchase for a full refund.”
